The Hungarian Dance University, which plays a primary role in the training of Hungarian professional dancers, is launching a new ballet competition of outstanding artistic quality in order to promote ballet and dance art in Hungary. The event is called the Budapest Ballet Grand Prix, BBGP, which will be held for the first time between 21th and 24th November, 2023.

The press conference that introduced next year’s event took place at the Crown Shopping Mall in Budapest with considerable press interest. The event was attended by Dr Péter Hoppál, Secretary of State for Culture, György Vashegyi, President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, Péter Ertl, Director of the National Dance Theater, Csaba Káel, CEO of the Palace of Arts, Sándorné Demján Mrs. Lídia, supporter of the BBGP, Professor Márta Fodorné Molnár, Rector of the host institution as well as János Kiss, Kossuth Prize-winning ballet artist, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university’s foundation.

The qualifying rounds and the preliminary rounds will be hosted by the Hungarian National Dance Theatre, while the Gala will take place at The Palace of Arts.

Competitors from professional schools and ensembles are invited to compete in three age groups in classical ballet and modern dance, both solo and pas de deux.

– Category I (junior A) – 15-17 years old – Category II (junior B) – 17-19 years old – Category III (senior A) – 19-24 years old

The participants will receive money prizes, gold, silver and bronze medals, diplomas and trophies.

  • 1st Prize: EUR 5000
  • 2nd Prize: EUR 3500
  • 3rd Prize: EUR 2000

Junior B

  • 1st Prize: EUR 5000
  • 2nd Prize: EUR 3500
  • 3rd Prize: EUR 2000

Senior A

  • 1st Prize: EUR 5000
  • 2nd Prize: EUR 3500
  • 3rd Prize: EUR 2000

Audience Favorite Award

This award reflects the audiences favorite participants during the final round. This award rewards the finalist having earned the most votes expressed by the audience the day of the Finals. To vote, please write the the number and name of your favourite finalist to a registered sheet at the foyer of the National Dance Theatre then put it to the vote box.
